PSAC members at St. Thomas University ratify their first collective agreement

FREDERICTON, NB – After negotiating since July 2010, members of PSAC reached a tentative agreement with St. ThomasUniversity on January 31, 2015.  The members ratified the agreement at a meeting that was held last evening.

Local president, Jennifer Burry, was happy to finally reach a positive outcome: ‘Our members have been determined from day one, and that day goes as far back as 2010.  It proves that with determination, you can reach a good collective agreement that contains job security, fair wages and recognition for the important work we do on a daily basis.

Jeannie Baldwin, Regional Executive Vice-President of PSAC Atlantic had the following to say: ‘I wish to sincerely congratulate these workers who have worked tirelessly in order to obtain their first collective agreement.
We couldn’t have done it without the solidarity of other unions and citizens who demonstrated their support to this group of workers.’

Negotiations for a first contract between St. Thomas University and PSAC had been ongoing since July 8, 2010 when the workers joined the PSAC.  This group represents 51 workers who work in office administration, facilities management, IT services, recruitment, academic advising, residence supervision, financial services and athletics.
